When I first read about the Mixpre-6 I thought I might buy one – in case of positive reviews.

But the lack of a redundant SD card slot and the fact you can’t use the faders as proper gain pots is a
dealbreaker for me. It happens rarely, but I once had a card failure in my camera. In case missing space was an issue Sound Devices could have used two microSD cards instead of a single SD card.

So I’ll keep my (audio quality-wise excellent) Zoom F8 in spite of a few drawbacks:
– Abysmal, laborious dual-channel recording mode. Tascam’s “Dual Recording” is much easier to operate.
– Digital limiters
– Digital high pass filters
– Headphone amp not great
