Humans can hear ultrasonics – our hearing apparatus hasn’t (yet) been damaged to the point where it is incapable of doing so, it is more than we have been trained to filter it out and block it. Spend time in an anechoic chamber for example and most people with reasonable hearing begin to hear in the ultrasonic range again. The research on the hearing range of babies is well known & there are other online lectures that mention this. Its also worth pointing out that any decent audio recorder can register ultrasonics by using higher recording rates.
